The story goes that John Mallory met Aaron Burr at a party at Solomon's home. John went on his expedition & lived in La. until coming to Ind. in 1810. Solomon was a "litery man & Financier" & lost money on the expedition. It is said Solomon never allowed his daughter to join John, her husband & she died of a broken heart. Solomon was Clerk, Recorder & Sherrif of Perry Co., Ind. He was also teacher & surveyor & served on the 1st Board of School Examiners & County Commissioners. He served in War of 1812.

Solomon Lamb mar. first in New York (name of wife unknown) and had adaughter, Cynthia, whom he brought to Indiana. He married second,Elizabeth Shepherd of Shepherdsville, Ky., May 26, 1811. She was bornJan. 13, 1791 and died Oct. 28, 1855. He died 1848. He lived first inPolk's Bottom and later moved to Troy. He spoke French fluently andtaught school in Troy and later taught in the small brick building onChestnut Street in Rome, two blocks west of the public square.
He was first clerk, recorder and sheriff of Perry County, all inone, serving only two years as sheriff, but holding the other two for aperiod of 23 years. His son, William S. succeeded in 1837 to the positionwhich he held for 14 years, the longest tenure on record in Perry Countyof an office in a single family, father and son. He also was on the Boardof School Examiners to which his son, William S. Lamb, also took hisfather's place in 1841. The last office held by Solomon Lamb (CountyCommissioner 1845) does not appear to have been transmitted to any of hisfamily, at his death in 1848.
He was a Whig in politics and served in the War of 1812. He was asurveyor and laid out the town of Rome, where he moved when the new brickcourt house was built circa 1820. He lived there the rest of his life andhe and his wife are buried in the Lamb Cemetery there.
He was a member of Gilead Baptist Church, Tobinsport and received aletter in 1820 to become a charter member of Bear Creek Baptist Churchnear Rome (now defunct). He served as first clerk of Perry County BaptistAssociation (then Little Pigeon) organized at Little Pigeon BaptistChurch where the Lincoln's attended in 1821.
